The argan folly continues. Miraculous Moroccan oil conquered hearts of many women. It proved to be an excellent cosmetic for face, body and hair. It is also useful in the kitchen. However, a different kind is used for consumption. What makes cosmetic oil different from edible one? And what things do you have to consider to buy the right, original product? The 100% ecologic argan oil is a top quality product, and the quality is reflected by price. However, beneficial and universal applicability, and a high performance of argan oil make the purchase a good investment in health and beauty.
A luxury product
The argan tree, from kernels of which the oil is produced, is an endemic plant entered to the UNESCO list of World Heritage. Collecting argan fruit and production of oil is a painstaking and time-consuming process. The oil is pressed using a traditional method by Moroccan women. Its first stage is crushing the nut and retrieving kernels. Kernels are ground on stone quern. The resulting oily mash is hand pressed. As much as 30 kg of argan fruit is required to produce 1 litre of oil.
Cosmetic and culinary argan oil – differences
The cosmetic oil is broadly used in cosmetic industry and dermatology. It is cold pressed and has a characteristic golden colour. It is practically odourless, and for external use. As an independent product it may be massaged into face and décolletage skin, used as a body balm, hair and nail serum.
On the other hand, the culinary argan oil is made of roasted argan tree fruit, it has a nut smell and taste. It is also darker compared to the cosmetic one. It is used as an addition to salads, meat, grilled vegetables and as an ingredient of a sweet dip (amlou). Due to its high content of valuable fatty acids it is a great dietary supplement.
Tips for clients
Great popularity of argan oil makes it easily available in many drugstores and cosmetic shops offering natural products. The offer is very broad, but remember – only the original product containing 100% Moroccan oil has the rich pro-health and care properties. What things should be considered to avoid dishonest vendors? Here are some useful tips.
If a cosmetic oil intended for face and body care smells with nuts (and is relatively cheap), it is surely a culinary oil, sold as a cosmetic one. The cosmetic oil is more expensive, as its production is more costly (additional filtration). Used topically has highly favourable effects (among others it reduces wrinkles and scars, soothes irritations, supports reduction of cellulite).
Price is not always a correct marker of quality. The original Moroccan oil is one of the most expensive cosmetic oils. Therefore it is not very probable that you will be able to purchase it for 1-3£/100 ml. On the other hand it is not as expensive as, for example, prickly pear seed oil. The whole thing is regulated by the market law of supply and demand. Immense popularity of argan oil and increased demand is associated with increasing price, that is not always a synonym of a high quality. Remember, though, that cosmetic oil is usually more expensive than culinary one.
Argan oil is fluid and clear, and does not turn solid at room temperature. It is a very important piece of information, because – due to its rarity and value – argan oil is often diluted with paraffin, rape seed oil or sunflower oil. The most valuable are products marked as: pure argan oil.
Certificate is the best guarantee of top quality and originality.
Buying a certified product you can be sure that the oil is original, manufactured by a reliable producer and supplied by a verified importer.
Oil or essential oil?
Another important question is the correct terminology. The term “essential oil” is quite often used as a synonym of the term “oil”. But in reality both terms are largely different. Vegetable oil is a liquid fat of herbal origin. At room temperature it is fluid. On the other hand, the essential oil is a concentrated, usually liquid substance obtained from a particular part of a plant, possessing a characteristic smell or taste.
To be used directly on skin, essential oil has to be dissolved in oil. It is possible to prepare a mixture of various vegetable oils, scented with several drops of an essential oil. If what you need is a pure oil obtained from argan tree fruit, with no natural or synthetic additives, choose a product referred to as “argan oil”.
There are numerous sellers on e-Bay who sell argan oil with a characteristic nutty scent, and many customers are misled thinking that it is the most pure form of argan oil. Culinary argan oil will soon be available on our other auctions. It will surely be cheaper.
How much Argan oil should I use?
The amount needed varies from one person to another depending on hair type, condition, and length.
It is an individual adjustment process. It might take a few applications to find the ideal amount for your hair.
We recommend the following for beginners:
Experiment with small amounts first; 1-2 drops or less, and then increase gradually if needed.

No matter the style you are going for,
No matter your hair type: dry, brittle, unmanageable, frizzy, thin, thick, coarse, straight, wavy, curly, or coily, Argan oil will add shine, tame frizz, help straighten your hair, or enhance your natural curls.
Apply Argan oil for a natural, flexible, long lasting hold. Without stiffness or stickiness your style will stay in place all day long.
To eliminate contact friction and prevent hair breakage, apply Argan oil to wet hair prior to using a round brush and a hair dryer to straighten wavy hair.
Apply Argan oil to enhance curls and boost volume prior to using a curling iron.
Or to simply air dry and manually style for a polished natural look.
The best part is that Argan oil does not just provide long lasting, weightless-hold styling, it also nourishes and protects hair from thermal styling and environmental factors.
Style your hair with Argan oil in 3 easy steps:
Dry your wet clean hair with a towel until damp
Spray the appropriate amount for your hair on your palms and rub it gently into your hair from ends to roots. Go very light on the roots
Style hair as desired
You can apply Argan oil on dry hair as well. However if you use heat styling tools to dry your hair, it is recommended to apply Argan oil first to protect it from thermal styling damage.
Extra fine thin hair:
To boost volume on fine thin hair without weighing it down, you must use Argan oil sparingly!
Spray less than one drop on your hand palms
Rub it on your face and body parts
Rub the leftovers on your hair by touching it lightly from ends to roots
Thick curly hair/ Afro American Hair:
Apply generous amounts of Argan oil to enhance natural curls/coils.
Dry your wet clean hair with a towel until damp
Take a section of hair and rub Argan oil into it starting at the ends. The amount of Argan oil depends on the length and thickness of the hair section. Remember small sections are usually easier to work with and often curl better
Repeat process until all hair sections are done
Style as usual
Can I use Argan oil as a Heat Protector?
If you want to keep your hair healthy you should never expose it to high temperature without protecting it first. Blow dryers, flat irons and curling irons deplete hair’s natural oils, destroy vital proteins and weaken hair’s hydrolipidic film.
Argan oil will not just protect your hair from getting fried; it will also nourish and repair your hair.
Argan oil as a Deep Leave-In Treatment
Frequent coloring, styling, and washing is damaging to hair.
You must apply a deep repair treatment once a week to replenish and rehydrate your hair.
To moisturize brittle parched hair back to vitality please follow these steps:
Take a section of hair and rub a generous amount of Argan oil into it starting at the roots and down to the ends. The amount of Argan oil depends on the length and thickness of the hair section as well as on your hair condition
Repeat process until all hair sections are done
Spray more Argan oil on your finger tips and gently massage the oil in small circular movements deeply into your scalp
Leave Argan oil in for 1-3 hours and wash with a gentle shampoo
To restore brittle damaged hair, it is recommended to leave it overnight
Repeat at least once a week or more frequently depending on your hair condition

Follow steps 1-3 in above section
Cover hair with a towel or with a plastic cap
Sit in Sauna or under a hooded dryer for 15-30 minutes
Wash with a gentle shampoo
Argan oil as a Hair-Growth-Treatment
Before applying Argan oil as a hair growth treatment on your scalp it is crucial you increase your skin’s absorption capacity by removing dead skin cells, sebum, and everyday dirt and debris fully and thoroughly. These pore-clogging impurities inhibit the growth of new hair and constitute a barrier for Argan oil to penetrate easily, deeply and intensely.
Argan oil is rich in Vitamin F which is used to repair and create tissue in the body and stimulate skin and hair growth.

Several scalp conditions are associated with sebum; over-production of skin’s natural oil.
