About the Cat’s claw
The herb, resembling a great bush, reaches the height of 20-30 m in favourable conditions. It naturally occurs in Asia, Africa and South America (and the name of “Cat’s claw” is a South-American name). Therapeutic application of the plant is well known to native inhabitants of those areas. Native tribes know three forms of the species. They discriminate them by bark colour. When cut it becomes white, dark-yellow or dark-red. The colour indictes the content of therapeutic substances and application of the herb. Natives value the dark-yellow bark most.
The traditional medicine used bark, leaves and roots for the therapy of:
-asthma,
-allergic atopic dermatitis (infusion used for drinking and for bathing)
-gastric ulcers
-some gastrointestinal disorders
-inflammations (infusion of bark and roots)
-menstruation disorders
-rheumatic problems (alcohol extract of bark)
-viral diseases and dermatological problems.
